Grottega was born in Laterza, in the Land of the Gravine, where rocky landscapes, historic architecture, and popular culture have coexisted for centuries. Here, in the 17th century, Laterza Maiolica reached its most refined form: elegant design, complex ornamentation, and the famous blue. We build on this legacy and bring it to contemporary interior design, also exploring the wild flora, architecture, and symbols of Puglia.
We oversee every stage in our workshop in Laterza: design, shaping, glazing, freehand painting, firing, and finishing. Alongside the techniques of historic majolica, we also employ sculptural reliefs, botanical compositions, and gold details with custom firings.
Controlling the entire production process allows us to combine shape, material, color, and decoration, and to adapt each piece to a specific project.
Two research projects in dialogue. The first draws on the baroque ornamentation of 17th-century Laterza Maiolica: scrolls and flowers in traditional blue, but also in forest green and amaranth, with contemporary lampshades. The second brings the wild flora of the Gravine, such as capers, mallow, borage, and chamomile, to the ellipsoidal surfaces, hand-painted and touched with gold.
The rose windows of Apulian churches become wall decorations. Radial geometries, fretwork, and relief-sculpted frames, enhanced by enamel, bring a recognizable signature of the region's architecture to today's spaces.
Our most recognizable shape: a ring with a void in the center, a symbol of continuity and connection. We offer two versions dedicated to love.
In dialect, "vasami" means "kiss me," and it also recalls the word "vases." This playful twist has given rise to a humorous and affectionate collection: faces with raised noses and lips, solid enamel, and gold details.
We work with architects, interior designers, showrooms, and retailers to create accessories tailored to a specific project. We can adjust shapes, sizes, proportions, palettes, decorations, and finishes, and develop coordinated lines for private homes, hospitality facilities, and commercial spaces.
We complement our existing collections with custom production, allowing each partner to offer distinctive pieces to their market. We communicate directly with the studio, from aesthetic design to delivery. Quantities, lead times, and techniques are agreed upon based on each order.
